TODS Sloane Street

Major refurbishment of TODS Sloane Street Store

Paris based designer India Mahdavi developed the interior fit out design working alongside London based McDonald Architects. The design comprised multiple alterations including new shop front, feature marble flooring, show cases, extended back of house area and new services.


There were no records of the building structure available and opening-up works revealed evidence of multiple phases of past alterations. Many of these alterations were found to be defective. It took a considerable effort to capture and record the existing structure. This was essential due to the demanding requirement of the design.

The widespread use of marble slabs increased floor loading and requirement for stiffness. The number of different floor construction cases necessitated a rage strengthening details be developed.


To increase back of house facilities new openings between the basement vaults were designed. These extend under the footway and the work had to be validated for highway loading. Additional strengthening was provided to weak pavement lights.
