Sixthform Centre – Dunottar School
New Sixth form teaching space along with upgrading of existing building facilities
Dunottar School is an independent school managed by the United
Learning Trust and located in Reigate, Surrey. The main campus comprises a Grade II Listed mansion and collection of two storey
educational buildings and sports facilities. The campus is surrounded by historic landscaped gardens with several trees protected by Preservation Orders.
The new extension was designed to be set into the existing landscape with large areas of glazing and a slender projected eaves detail to assist shading. The internal space was split into two areas with an open plan common room and café and separate meeting rooms. Alterations to the adjoining building comprised the removal of load bearing walls and the introduction of moveable partitions, a new stair, plant-room and toilets.
The structure comprised a piled flat slab along with light weight steel frame and timber roof. Reinforced blockwork walls were provided where retaining. Reinforcement scheduling and steelwork connections were carried out by ACA.
Ground conditions comprised impermeable clay over permeable sand. The SUDS drainage utilised a borehole soakaway system.
