Studied Engineering at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating in 1974. He was with Ove Arup & Partners for 8 years including CAD software development and design of large reinforced concrete structures. Overseas experience as VSO volunteer, and in Papua New Guinea, and Bermuda. Associate at Price & Myers assisting Sam Price until 1994. Started work as a sole practitioner in November 1994 working frequently with Adrian Cox Associates. Has worked principally for Adrian Cox Associates since June 2006. Experienced in design of building structures in all materials, particularly load bearing masonry and glass and in assessment and conservation of historic structures.

For the latter project the architect was awarded the King of Prussia's Gold Medal 2005.
During 2004 and 2005 Nigel undertook freelance work for Jane Wernick Associates and worked on the Cass Sculpture Foundation in Goodwood. By simplifying the foundation design, costs were brought within budget and the project proceeded. Nigel was involved in the superstructure design and worked with the architect and builder to achieve high quality finishes. The project won the 2007 RIBA Regional Award and the 2007 BCI Small Building of the Year Award.
