Guildford Cathedral is now free of construction work which has been neatly carried out without interrupting life at the Cathedral. This follows a £1m tower conservation and sculpture project and a £5m project to remove asbestos containing materials from the Nave ceiling, and take the opportunity to improve lighting, redecorate and repair.
ACA was involved in setting the requirements for the temporary support platform which spanned the entire nave crossing and transepts. This allowed work to proceed over a one year period without interruption to the Cathedral services. ACA designed special bearing points which avoided the need for multiple anchors to support the floor. This part of the work was closely followed by the contractor. The bearing points were designed to be capped off and plastered over but remain in place for potential use in the future.
