Conservation of Grade II Folly Tower, Menagerie Cages and Boundary Wall at Pleasure Park

Initial survey completed for this project to preserve and conserve the Grade II boundary wall, folly tower and menagerie cages. These exceptionally rare pleasure ground structures are survivals from ‘Lord’ George Sanger’s Hall-By-The-Sea and Pleasure Gardens. The remains of ‘The Charming Grounds and the Unrivalled Menagerie’ with ‘animals too numerous to mention’ are in the grounds of the recently reopened Dreamland with its Grade II* Cinema and Scenic Railway and echoes of T S Eliot, Lindsay Anderson and Tracey Emin. Parts of the structures, largely built from burr bricks and kiln rejects, are very fragile and detailed assessment is required to enable safe access for further survey work.
